Improving the mental health and wellbeing of adults and young people through non-contact boxing programmes.
Winner of The Investec Beyond Business Programme 2024, Empowerbox is a Social Enterprise aimed at improving the lives of adults and young people.
Valerian Spicer did not enter a boxing gym until the age of 30, initially just to keep fit. Despite the late start she dedicated the next 8 years of her life to the sport, taking part in 64 bouts, beating 3 Olympians and becoming a world ranked international boxer in the process.
During her career, Valerian took part in 2 Commonwealth Games, 2 World Championships and the Pan American Games. She became Dominica's first ever medalist at a Continental Championship, medalled at several international tournaments and won the ABA National Championship.
In 2018 I teamed up with Psychologist Andy Cole and between us we developed THE SPICER METHOD.
We deliver boxing and mindfulness programmes and 1-1's for adults and young people across organisations, schools, and youth centres. Our offerings include Women's Boxing Workshops and certified boxing courses designed to empower participants and build leadership skills.
The Empower Box Boxing Courses promote fitness, confidence, and resilience, while our Boxing Leader's Courses, run in partnership with the Community Police of Great Britain and affiliated with England Boxing, equip individuals with the tools to lead and inspire others through sport. These programmes support personal development, community engagement, and physical well-being in a safe and structured environment. We also offer informative talks to organisations and schools.
At the heart of our Boxing Programmes lies a strong foundation of collaboration and support. We are proud to be affiliated with several reputable organisations that share our commitment to empowering individuals, fostering personal development, and building stronger communities through the discipline and values of boxing. These affiliations not only validate the quality of our programmes but also enhance the opportunities and experiences we offer to participants of all ages and backgrounds.
One of our key partnerships is with England Boxing, the national governing body for amateur boxing in England. This affiliation ensures that our courses meet high standards of safety, coaching excellence, and ethical practice. Through England Boxing, we access official guidance, training resources, and development frameworks that keep our programmes in line with national expectations. This partnership also enables our participants to gain recognised qualifications and certifications.
